DL-480 Special Roles of Mercury & Venus in Vedic Syst – Gomes
As the two interior planets (and the planets that are most often within the closest range to the Sun in astrology, Mercury (Budha) and Venus (Shukra) are conceptually (and actually) closest to the Atma (or soul) of the planetary system, so they play a special role in both accessing and developing astrological knowledge. Asuramaya, the entity that first learned astrology from the Sun, was Venus' grandfather. Mercury was the product of a union between the Moon and Jupiter's wife Tara. Between the two they control not only astrological calculations (Mercury), but also the “gift of prophecy" both essential tools in Vedic astrology. This lecture covers selected mythologies of these planets, a brief survey of several independent systems ruled by these planets, the important role of these planets in Jyotish, and their importance as co-workers in producing accurate predictions in Jyotish.
